Small and Commercial Pellet Press Animal Feed for Feed Pellet Production
The production of pellet press animal feed is not very new because it has been taking place for a long time and in fact, it was the first function for which the pellet press was created. However, somewhere along the way, the need for better and more environmental friendly sources of fuel made people discover that the same way they were making the animal feed pellets fuels, they could also make the pellet fuels and make some money. There is no discernible difference between the pellet machines used for the production of the animal feed pellets and those used for the production of the fuel pellets. The system of operation is just the same.
The pellet press animal feed mill machinery differ in size. Starting at 5 horsepower to 500 horsepower, these machines can be very small, even diesel powered and they can also be very big, towering giants. The capacity starts at may be 50Kg/h and could be as much as 9 tons/h. For production of the feed pellets to begin, powdered feedstock is compressed through the die holes into compact solid forms by the rollers and then as it comes out of the die holes on the outside it is trimmed to the right size by a couple of trimmers. Such food pellets can be used to feed fish, dog pellets are also made that way and for pellets made from grass like alfalfa, oats, hay and many more, they can be used for livestock food on the farm.
Now, the pellet mill for the production of animal feed pellets has one, two, or even more conditioning units where additional material can be added in the production of feed pellets to make them better and improve their condition, both nutritional and physical. The right moisture is also added here to make the pellets reach food grade quality. As the pellets come out of the die holes on the outside, they are usually very hot and thus they are taken to the cooling chamber where they are conditioned to the right temperature for packaging and storage. This conditioning is also very important because it ensures the retention of the right moisture content in the feeds.

The feed pellet mill animal feed makes pellets of varying thickness depending on the die holes. Animal feed pellets could be as thick as 2 mm through 10mm. Just like in the fuel pellet press, the mills for manufacturing the animal feed pellets come in different sizes too. The smallest machine for home pellets productions uses the flat dies while the bigger commercial mills use the ring dies. However, in some cases, the commercial mills may also use the flat dies although this is not economical because the dies do not wear out regularly.
Some pellet press animal feed mills can also make wood pellets, but you had better ensure that yours can be used do, at least from the manufacturers. The process is the same and since the raw material has to be introduced to the feeder in powder form, then it is really no big deal. For high quality feed pellets, the conditioning must be done right.
